April Newsletter for Rain City Soccer
Apr 1 2008 3:28PMHello Rain City Soccer,
It's a new month and time for a new newsletter and update from the board.
We'll be going over the some of the details of the following spring events.
• Spring Soccer Camp and Special Effect - Starting April 5th (this
Saturday!)
• The Rain City Invitational - May 17th (we need people to help host
out-of-towners!)
• Soccer Movie Night - April 5th and 6th
Spring Soccer Camp and Special Effect - Starting April 5th
This is a very exciting 6-week program that will run every Saturday from
April 5th (this Saturday) through May 10th. It is kicking off our newest
team Special Effect, a Saturday recreational team for Rain City Soccer. We
are really excited by the Spring Soccer Camp and Special Effect! Come out
and join us!!!
Spring Soccer Camp and Special Effect are open to everyone in Rain City
Soccer Club. It actively welcomes women, men and new soccer players.
Spring Soccer Camp will offer soccer skills development, training, and
drills and will be taught in a fun, engaging way by some of the experts who
play right here in our own soccer club. The Camp instructional program is
packed with good stuff for you:
o Week 1: Rules of the Game and Striking the Ball!
o Week 2: Control: Dribbling, Trapping and Passing
o Week 3: Field Geometry – Or How You Learned to Love Math After All
o Week 4: Defense!
o Week 5: Offense!
o Week 6: Putting it All Together and Set Plays
Can't make every Saturday? No problem … come when you can (but those that
make it all the way through Camp are in for something Special at the end).
Shake off the winter blues, grab a friend, and come out and brush up your
soccer skills and meet new people! This is going to be awesome!!!
This also coincides nicely to improve your game just in time for our Rain
City Invitational tournament with Portland and Vancouver May 17th.
Sign-ups and more details are available on the Special Effect page of
www.raincitysoccer.org<http://www.raincitysoccer.org/Home.aspx?Team=Special%20Effect>.
Rain City Invitational - May 17th
So you have been working hard on your skills, maybe you even went to Soccer
Camp to improve your game, and now you're ready to knock the socks off of
some soccer players from other cities (Portland, Vancouver, San Francisco,
etc). Yup, the Rain City Invitational is fast approaching. It will be held
the weekend of May 17th. We need your help and support to make this the
biggest and best year yet.
There will be more details in the May newsletter but please save the date
and come out. We're hoping for a big showing to make this the best year
ever.
In particular, if you can help with housing out-of-towners please let Rob
Oze know (rob...@comcast.net). We're trying to find housing for a lot of
players and we need to get moving on that as soon as possible.
Soccer Movie Night - April 5th and 6th
There's a really good soccer movie at northwest film forum on April 5/6
about Zidane. If you are interested in seeing this with some other Campers,
come out to Spring Soccer Camp this Saturday and talk to Brian Coulthard
(that's me). It's been getting great reviews. I'll have details this weekend
at Camp for a group outing. Here's the link to the film forum
http://www.nwfilmforum.org/cinemas/calendar.php
There's a short write-up on Zidane on The Stranger Slog at
http://slog.thestranger.com/2008/03/a_nature_film_about_zinedine_zidane
That is all for April, if you have any suggestions, news items for next
month's newsletter, feedback, gossip, recipes, jokes, please don't hesitate
to get a hold of any board member (raincitybo...@gmail.com). We're here for
you. We have board meetings at the last Thursday of every month and anyone
is welcome to come (first pitcher of beer is on us). Next month we're
meeting on the 24th of April at 6:30 pm at the Elysian.
Hugs and kisses,
Brian Coulthard
